Simone grew up in Canberra and coming from a sports orientated family she developed an adventurous upbringing. In her teen years she decided to pursue her more creative side and complete a Diploma of Textile Design and Development, and then continue on to further her studies with a Bachelor of Arts (Textile Design) at RMIT.
She often takes inspiration from her natural surroundings which she enjoys exploring and seeks out in her spare time, whether this be climbing mountainsides or finding a new favourite coffee shop. Simone describes her practise as being an illustrator, pattern designer and printer. Her designs are often bold, playful, fun and filled with lots of colour. Motifs usually take on an abstract and stylised approach resulting in fun and somewhat quirky prints. When designing she likes to continuously layer up and add elements to her designs so that they are busy, complex and intricate. She then looks back and starts to pair back anything unnecessary to create well balanced and contemporary designs.
Through her practise of printed textiles, she likes to explore a range of different ideas, techniques and patterns and how they come to together. She invites people to play around with the patterns, mixing and matching the designsthemselves as she does many times through the process of designing.
This has allowed Simone to exhibit her work in exhibitions such as Body Architecture (2015) and Under Over (2015), while she also aspires to gain commercial experience within the textiles industry.
